Potato-Based Staple Food – Steamed Bun
- Commodity name: Potato-Based Staple Food – Steamed Bun
- Product Description
-
China has now launched its potato-based staple food strategy, aiming to actively promote the development of potato-based staple products and related industries. This includes advancing innovation in staple food product development and refining production processes, ultimately boosting the industrialization of the potato sector. As a result, potatoes will join rice, wheat, and corn as a key staple crop, with cultivation areas gradually expanding to 150 million mu. This expansion is expected to boost annual fresh potato production by an additional 200 million tons—equivalent to roughly 40 million tons of grain—significantly enhancing the nation’s food security capabilities.
Potato-based staple food development involves processing potatoes into staple products like steamed buns, noodles, and rice noodles—items tailored to Chinese consumers' eating habits. This initiative marks a shift in potato consumption, moving from side dishes to main meals, from raw ingredients to fully processed, industrialized products, and from basic sustenance to nutritious, health-focused options. As a complementary addition to China's three traditional staple crops, potatoes are gradually emerging as the country's fourth major staple crop.
In recent years, Hissen Potato Industry Group Co., Ltd. has been actively promoting the strategy of making potatoes a staple food. The company is diligently exploring and implementing innovative ways to transform potatoes into locally adapted, China-friendly potato-based staple products, gradually reshaping consumers' perceptions and dietary habits toward potato consumption. To date, they have successfully launched five major product lines—featuring over 60 varieties of staples such as steamed buns, noodles, snacks, breads, and nutritionally rich potato beverages—all made from fully dehydrated potato flour—and are now actively rolling out these products nationwide.
