As the first domestic potato enterprise to actively embrace the Belt and Road Initiative, Xisen Potato Industry Group has made a strong start and achieved rapid growth. Today, it has already established fruitful collaborations with five countries—Britain, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Argentina, and the Netherlands—marking it as a true "pioneer" in implementing the Belt and Road Strategy.

China-UK Cooperation

In 2014, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the James Hutton Institute in the UK. By leveraging shared resources and cutting-edge technologies, combined with real-world production needs, the two parties have embarked on joint research initiatives and strengthened technical staff training and exchange programs. To date, mutual visits between the teams have exceeded 30人次. Looking ahead, their collaboration will focus on accelerating the introduction, evaluation, and utilization of more than 10,000 wild germplasm resources from the UK, as well as expanding cooperation in areas such as disease diagnosis and control, seed potato production techniques, storage technologies, and personnel exchanges and training. Additionally, they plan to organize regular Sino-British potato symposia.

China-Kazakhstan Cooperation

The company has partnered with Kazakhstan’s S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University, leveraging each party’s unique resources and technological strengths to collaborate on evaluating, identifying, and screening potato germplasm resources tailored to the agricultural characteristics of countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. The partnership also focuses on developing, propagating, and promoting new potato varieties. Moving forward, the two sides will jointly establish a demonstration base at S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University dedicated to testing Hissen’s latest potato varieties and specialized agricultural machinery. Additionally, the National Engineering Research Center for Potato (NERCP) has officially opened its Kazakhstan branch at the university. Looking ahead, they plan to co-create a China-Kazakhstan potato innovation and technology platform, launch a dedicated potato scholarship program, and further strengthen the implementation and dissemination of a three-generation potato breeding system along with comprehensive agricultural machinery solutions. This initiative will also foster enhanced talent exchange and training opportunities between the two nations.
