6 days, 5 provinces, exploring the development path of the potato industry!

From July 31 to August 5, the National Potato Engineering Technology Research Center, in conjunction with Qingdao Agricultural University, conducted a 6-day special research on potato industry development in Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Ningxia, Shandong and other places.
The main purpose of this research activity is to comprehensively understand the development of the potato industry in China, to further promote the structural reform of the agricultural supply side and the green and high-quality development of agriculture, to advance the process of making potatoes a staple food in China, to better ensure national food security, and to provide beneficial references and suggestions for accelerating the implementation of precise poverty alleviation in the industry and rural industrial revitalization.
The research team was led by Professor Liu Xinmin, Vice President of Qingdao Agricultural University, with Dr. Hu Baigeng, Director of the National Potato Engineering Technology Research Center, and Professor Wang Zhaohua, Dean of the Rural Revitalization Research Institute of Qingdao Agricultural University, serving as deputy leaders. The team members included Professor Sun Zhaoming, Vice Dean of the College of Economics at Qingdao Agricultural University, Professor Lin Derong and Associate Professor Xiong Wei from the Management School, and Dr. Yu Wencheng from the College of Economics. Special experts from the National Potato Engineering Technology Research Center, including Wang Peilun, Du Zhen, Zhang Yongcheng, and Researcher Tian Henglin, participated in this research activity.

First stop:
The research team visited our Beijing Yanqing base for research, focusing on the potato tissue culture center, the micro potato seed storage facility, and observing the potato museum. The general manager of the Yanqing base, Li Yanming, and other leaders accompanied the visit.

Inner Mongolia Shangdu
Second stop:
The research team arrived at our Inner Mongolia Shangdu base for on-site research, focusing on our ten-thousand-acre seed breeding base, Lama Board seed breeding base, 100,000-ton seed potato controlled atmosphere storage, full powder factory, and the construction site of the 31,500㎡ modern tissue culture center, conducting research observations and holding a symposium.
The symposium specially invited more than 10 local representatives, including the deputy county mayor in charge, the director of the agricultural and animal husbandry bureau, the head of the seed management station, representatives from potato processing enterprises, representatives from planting cooperatives, and representatives from growers to participate in the on-site discussion. At the meeting, each representative spoke about the current development status and demands of the potato industry, as well as suggestions.
Our chairman Liang Xisen, general manager Liang Zhaokun, production director Qu Haidong, and other leaders accompanied the research throughout and participated in the symposium.

Gansu Dingxi
Third stop:
The research team arrived in Gansu Dingxi, known as the "Hometown of Potatoes in China," to conduct a special research on the potato industry. During the research, they visited the Gansu Lantian Potato Industry Group, Dingxi Agricultural Science Research Institute, and Gansu Ailan Potato Seed Company for on-site research and investigation, and held discussions based on the research findings.
The symposium specially invited the director of Dingxi Agricultural Science Research Institute, the director of the processing institute, the head of the potato room, leaders from the agricultural and rural bureau, representatives from industry associations, representatives from potato processing enterprises, and representatives from professional cooperatives to participate in the on-site discussion. All parties engaged in in-depth communication and exchange regarding the current development situation of the potato industry and future development suggestions.

Ningxia Xiji
Fourth stop:
The busy research team rushed to Ningxia Xiji for special research. During this period, they focused on observing the local ten-thousand-acre seed potato breeding base and the Shandong Shui Fa Group Xiji project park, gaining a detailed understanding of the development of the potato industry in Xiji, and organized a special symposium.
The symposium specially invited the director of the Xiji Industrial Park Management Committee, the director of the agricultural and rural bureau, the director of the science and technology bureau, the chairman of Tianqi Potato Group, the director of the potato service center, leaders from Shui Fa Ningxia Company, and more than 10 local potato enterprise representatives to participate in the discussion. All parties discussed the current development status of the potato industry in Xiji, future development plans, and suggestions.

Fifth stop:
At the last stop of the research work, the research team arrived in Tengzhou, known as the "Hometown of Potatoes in China," to conduct research, focusing on understanding the current development status, development model, and market advantages of the potato industry in Tengzhou, and conducted comprehensive visits to various markets, followed by a symposium based on the research findings.
Li Hongbo, the deputy mayor of Tengzhou, Li Guangyao, the party secretary and director of the Tengzhou Agricultural and Rural Bureau, and Kong Lingqiang, the president of the Shandong Potato Association, accompanied the research throughout and participated in the symposium.

The research team listened as much as possible through in-depth visits to potato circulation markets, visiting agents and brokers, and having heart-to-heart talks with potato farmers to gather first-hand information. They look forward to completing a high-quality and insightful research report under the leadership of experts and professors from Qingdao Agricultural University and the National Potato Engineering Technology Research Center, contributing to the healthy development of the potato industry in China and the continuous progress of the industry!
